Toughen the Fuck Up Buttercup

Toughen the Fuck Up Buttercup

If you know Tom Bilyeu, co-founder of Quest Nutrition and Impact Theory, and you’ve watched some of his content, you might have heard him say: “Toughen the fuck up buttercup”. He even has a T-shirt that says #TTFUB. I want one of those.

Why am I telling you this? Well, partly because I needed to hear these words again and partly because, to be honest, I believe a lot of people should toughen up a little.

Let me explain why I feel like I need to toughen the fuck up.

I started a mental toughness challenge you might have heard of called 75 HARD™, created by Andy Frisella. When doing the challenge, you have to do certain tasks every day, which are: take a progress photo, follow a diet, drink a gallon of water, do 2×45-minute workouts a day, no cheat meals or alcohol, and read 10 pages of a non-fiction book.

If you skip a task, you have to start over the next day. If you’re on day 20, you start over. If you’re on day 38, you start over. If you’re on day 74 and you don’t take that progress photo, you start over.

Today is the fourth time I have to start over. I keep failing when it comes to the diet part of the challenge. Starting over is hard, but the 75 HARD™ challenge is about mental toughness after all and it doesn’t matter how many times I need to start over. I will complete the challenge, and I will toughen the fuck up, buttercup.

Why Do I Need to Toughen Up?

  • My ego is a little bruised from having to start over with 75 HARD™ (again)
  • I need to toughen the fuck up, so I can feel more in control around food and not suffer as much when cravings strike
  • I need to become tough if I’m going to reach my fitness goals and push through challenging moments
  • I need to toughen up so the unfortunate and unexpected events in life don’t throw me off track
  • I need to toughen up, so I’ll care less about what others think
  • I need to toughen up, so I can show up for others in times of need
  • I need to toughen up, so that I never have a victim mentality.

Listen to me and listen to Tom Bilyeu: “Toughen the fuck up buttercup”. And if you’re not sure how to start building mental toughness, try the 75 HARD™ challenge. You have no idea how tough you are capable of becoming. You have no idea what you are capable of until you test yourself.
