What Does it Even Mean To Maximise Human Potential?
Every human being on planet earth, regardless of age, sex, colour, or creed has the ability to maximise human potential. However, in the personal development industry, the words human potential can often be thrown around a little loosely.
I define it as:
Maximise:Make as large or great as possible
Human:Relating to or characteristic of humankind
Potential:Latent qualities or abilities that may be developed and lead to future success or usefulness
In short, maximising our potential in all areas of life (physical, financial, mental, spiritual, social, vocation, and family). The ability to continue to grow and evolve to our greatest degree daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly.
Why Would You Want To Maximise Your Potential?
We have seven areas of mastery within our lives:
To the degree we master each area, we increase our levels of fulfillment, the word fulfilment means to fill-ful. We are literally filling more areas of life. The more we fill, the greater we grow our sphere of influence and potential.
The seven areas can represent great levels of power, or great levels of weaknesses. For every area we do not empower, we open the doorway for someone or thing to overpower us. For every area we neglect, we pay a price, for there is no reward without a risk.
Strive for great wealth but neglect your family, you risk ending your relationship in a divorce
Seek great financial empowerment but neglect your health, you will increase the probability of using that wealth in the future to fight diseases that could have been prevented
Work hard but neglect your mental health, you can end up in a dangerous psychological place where you are dependent on pharmaceutical medicines to balance your mental state
A holistic approach to mastery is the most stable and decreases the chances that volatility within areas we are neglecting will consume time away from the areas we value most.
Understanding The Role Your Values Play
As human beings, we all live our lives by our own unique set of values, when we align with our values, we experience the following symptomatology:
Direction and vision
Time shrinks (2 hours can feel like 2 minutes)
We increase our focus for longer periods of time
We increase the degree of challenge we are willing to embrace
We increase the level of information we retain (Information retention order)
We become reliable and disciplined
We set continues goals in the areas that are highest in our values
Bring homeostasis to the central nervous system
Bring homeostasis to the autonomic nervous system
Listen to the voice and the vision on the inside
Increase entrepreneurial drive
No one has to remind us what to do when we are living congruently within our values. Our whole neurological structure and body is designed to fulfill our highest to least valuable perceptions.
Now, when I discuss values, I do not mean:
When you are living congruently within your values, you are all of these, and when you attempt to live within someone else’s values or outside of your own, you will find that you display the opposite and experience symptoms, such as:
Low energy (even tiredness or sleepy)
Decreased focus (Hard to concentrate or not at all)
Lack of direction and vision
Time expands (2-seconds can feel like 2-hours)
Attention Deficit Disorder (We find it hard to focus and stay focused)
We decrease the level of challenge we are willing to embrace
Increase the chances of looking for quick fixes
We become unreliable and undisciplined (Find it hard to stick to what we say we will do)
We only desire to achieve the bare minimum so we can get back to doing what we actually value and love
Listen to opinions on the outside
Decrease entrepreneurial drive
So, it is obvious to see that your body is driven by your highest values. And understanding and living congruently within them will allow you to maximise your potential, awaken your inner genius, and increase your levels of authenticity and fulfilment.
How Do You Discover Your Unique Set of Values?
As a human behavioural specialist, I assist clients weekly to determine their values. You can start by heading to www.drdemartini.com/values and filling in your values determination.
Here are a few tips to make sure you get the correct values, that are authentically yours:
Answer the Questions Based on What Your Life Demonstrates, not what you think it should be based on your parents, culture, religion, or friendship circle (That would represent your outer projected values and we want to know your true authentic values)
Know What Each Answer Represents. One of the questions on the form asks “What do you fill your personal space with most?”. Don’t just write “Technology” as an answer, but ask yourself, what is so valuable in the technology that you keep that technology there to utilise (E.g. Most of my technology holds information on human behaviour)
Be Present while completing your values. Your answers hold great power and will show you the areas in which you can effortlessly unlock and maximise human potential.
Your values derive from your voids, your voids are the areas in which you perceive to be most missing throughout your life. Examples of this can be expressed as follows,
If you have experienced major mental challenges throughout your life, then mental mastery may be your biggest void and values. Don’t be surprised if psychology or the study of human behaviour and the mind come up most within your values determination.
If you felt like you were beaten, bullied, and unable to stand up for yourself. Don’t be surprised if your biggest void is strength and your values determination reveals that body building or a form of martial arts appears at the top of your values.
If you felt you lacked friendships when you were younger, don’t be surprised if socialising and creating a network of followers is highest on your values.
If you felt your family had little money and financial empowerment represented your greatest void, don’t be surprised if financial mastery or becoming a wealthy entrepreneur top the list on your values.
Whatever your values are, know that no one is right or wrong for their values. They are simply your values, and honouring them will maximise your potential.
For 11 years, I have been working 12 hours a day as human behavioural specialist. It is not uncommon for clients at 7pm at night to comment on my level of energy and vitality when they were falling sleep at 5pm as they finished work. I am like a kid in a candy store, and every day I am able to research, write, and teach in an area I would gladly do for free. My energy, vitality, potential is easily expanded daily because I stacked the odds in my favour and do what I love. My vacation and vocation are one. Nobody has to tell me to get up and go to work and no one has to motivate me to strive for ever greater levels of growth within my business.
You too have the opportunity to do what you love and love what you do, regardless of where you are. It starts by getting clear on your unique set of values and then methodically planning how you can express and do more of that and delegate the lower end values to others.
To the degree in which you can live within your genius and do just that, your days will feel like time flies and your energy lasts throughout the day.
I invite you to gain clarity on where your genius lies and discover your unique set of values. It will be the fastest way for you to maximise and drastically increase your human potential within the shortest period of ti
