An animal-based diet has given me a new definition of what it means to be healthy. I didn’t start eating this way to lose weight, help with mental health, or heal an autoimmune condition. Frankly, I just started eating this way because I started learning more about the chemicals and toxins in processed foods and how they alter our brain chemistry and impact our mood. I began learning about how chemicals are purposely put in foods to make us want more of them and crave them. I started seeing how businesses make huge profits from these addicting foods, meanwhile, those who eat them become so sick. I started eating an animal-based diet simply because I wanted to be healthy. I do not want to suffer or live a sick life. I want to wake up pain-free, full of energy and feeling great.

I was not expecting to experience any immediate noticeable benefits from switching to eating an animal-based diet, I just thought it would be good in the long run. However, I ended up noticing that aches and pains I was living with that I thought were “normal” quickly disappeared. I have less joint pain and inflammation, specifically in my knees. I also have more cognitive function, less brain fog, and more stable energy. I know it sounds extreme but now looking back on when I was eating a standard American diet (SAD), it feels as if I was living in a black-and-white world and now everything has been brought to colour.
Now granted, I did remove processed foods from my diet and saw these benefits, so someone can make the argument that had I begun eating a plant-based diet, then I would have experienced similar healing. I’m sure I would have seen some benefits had I done this, however, in the long run, a plant-based diet can lead to many nutrient deficiencies. Animal foods are more nutrient-dense and have more bioavailable nutrition than plant foods. Plants also contain antinutrients and other chemical compounds that can disrupt the gut wall and can cause a laundry list of health challenges. I do eat some plant foods but I would not make them the entirety of my diet as I believe it would do more harm than good.

An animal-based diet helps my hair grow, skin glow, and digestion work like a pro. I sleep through the night, I have less irritability, and I feel good in my skin. An animal-based diet gave me my brain back. I do not have sugar cravings and I do not feel like some scientist or corporation is dictating my food choices. An animal-based diet is delicious, nutritious, and gives me health!
